In Port Marianne, we have an new opportunity to restore the expression and the role of geography and of natural riverside areas as structuring, welcoming elements with a profound meaning for the city. In the new République area, the aim is to re-establish the required systemic and natural geographical cohesion between the River Lez and the River Lironde. The new quarter is established on the production of a real urban ecosystèm, centred on the restoration and enhancement of the area around the River Lironde. In this park quarter, the blocks are like islets on its banks, in a topography that aims to respect natural areas. The residential courts are major landscape areas on the scale of the neighbourhood: they are quiet public spaces surrounded by private urban detached houses and maisonettes. The planted inner courts form “micro-landscapes” conceived as natural habitats transposed on the scale of an inhabited courtyard.
